Led by, writers, producers & directors, AitchCo develops original work for theatre, audio and screen, alongside story-led communications for arts and cultural organisations.

     CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT & STORY LABS

This is the core of AitchCo’s work.

These services are for writers and creative practitioners developing new narrative work for stage, audio, screen or the page.

Story Development & Dramaturgy

Project-based development support for writers working across forms, including:

  • Plays and performance-led work
  • Screenplays and episodic projects
  • Audio drama and narrative audio
  • Short fiction and novel-length work in development

Support may include:

  • Structural and dramaturgical development
  • Character, action and narrative drive
  • Scene-, sequence- or chapter-level work
  • Development from early idea through to draft, revision or rehearsal

This work is process-focused, story-led and tailored to the needs of the project, drawing on live-practice development methods without privileging a single form.

Script & Narrative Development

(Stage, Audio, Screen & Prose)

Focused development for writers actively shaping a narrative project.

This work supports:

  • Plays, audio scripts and screen projects
  • Short stories, novellas and novels
  • Cross-form or adaptation-led projects

Areas of focus include:

  • Story structure, pacing and narrative clarity
  • Voice, point of view and perspective
  • One-to-one development conversations
  • Project-based support rather than ongoing consultancy

Best suited to writers working toward readings, sharings, submissions, editorial review or production.

Story Development Labs

Small, curated development spaces for writers working seriously on a project.

  • Limited cohorts (usually 6–8 writers)
  • Time-limited programmes (typically 4–6 weeks)
  • Rigorous, supportive development environment
  • Focus on momentum rather than perfection

Labs are development rooms, not teaching courses, and mirror professional creative processes used across theatre, screen, audio and long-form writing.

Writers arrive with a draft or substantial idea and leave with:

  • Greater structural clarity
  • Renewed creative momentum
  • A clearer sense of next steps

Creative Development Rooms & Scratch Processes

Facilitated spaces for work-in-progress development.

This may include:

  • Structured development sessions
  • Rehearsal-room or workshop-style processes
  • Scratch and sharing support
  • Peer-led feedback structures

These environments are artist-centred and project-led, and are particularly suited to:

  • Collectives or early-stage companies
  • Writers bringing work into a room for the first time
  • Projects at an exploratory or transitional stage

        ORIGINAL CREATIVE WORK

.
AitchCo develops and produces original creative work across theatre, audio and screen and page.

This includes:

  • New theatre projects and plays in development
  • Audio drama and narrative audio
  • Screenwriting projects for film and television
  • Long and short form fiction writing, and anthology development.
  • Audio content including podcasts and audio drama.
  • Collaborative, writer-led making processes

Creative projects are developed independently or in partnership with artists, producers and organisations.

This work informs all development and consultancy offered through the studio.

STORY LED COMMUNICATIONS

Alongside its creative work, AitchCo undertakes a limited number of story-led communications projects for arts, cultural and creative organisations.

This work is selective and project-based, and rooted in narrative craft.

Narrative & Story Strategy

  • Narrative development for campaigns and programmes
  • Clarifying story, message and audience
  • Story architecture for cultural and creative projects

Creative Communications (Arts & Culture)

  • Story-led campaigns and content
  • Creative copy and narrative framing
  • Communications support grounded in storytelling practice

This work draws on Fiona’s background in theatre, screen and narrative development, and is best suited to organisations working in culture, the arts and creative industries.

AitchCo also works as a producer and creative partner on selected projects across theatre, audio, podcasting and film, particularly those grounded in strong storytelling and collaborative practice.

This may include:

  • Producing or co-producing audio and podcast projects
  • Working with filmmakers to develop and realise film projects
  • Supporting early-stage creative work through development and production

Producing and collaboration work is undertaken selectively and on a project-by-project basis, shaped around the needs of the work rather than a fixed production model.
